Teen's assault points out the danger of working in fast food

Can you imagine working at your job and having a customer assault you? That's what allegedly happened in this case out of Wisconsin, described on Jan. 8.

A teenaged worker at a Greenfield, Wisconsin, McDonalds was working when a customer allegedly assaulted her on the clock. Why? The customer reportedly believed that she had waited too long to receive her meal.

There was a video of the altercation. The customer is shown grabbing the 17-year-old employee and hitting her several times before throwing her onto the ground. The teen claims the customer was mad about waiting for her food. The teen admitted to exchanging "heated" words with the woman, but that should not have led to the physical violence that was seen on the video moments later.

Shockingly, the customer and companion fled. Neither have yet been caught. The teen victim's mother has said that the employer should have done more to protect workers like her daughter. The teen, who has epilepsy, could have been severely hurt or had a seizure as a result of the attack. The teen has left the job, according to the news.

It's not every day that you hear about a worker being assaulted by a customer, but it is possible. The safety of workers in any environment has to be paramount. It's important for people like cashiers and tellers to know that they have a right to safety in the workplace. If they are attacked for any reason then they should be able to file a workers' compensation claim to help them through the troubling time.
